Ruskin Bond International School (RBIS) has set up its first-ever franchise in Gujarat's Vadodara, bringing the legendary author's stories and characters into a nature-focused educational environment. RBIS, whose philosophy revolves around "Nature, Nurture and Nourish" and aims for holistic student development, is an initiative by well-known author & poet Ruskin Bond and his adopted grandson, Siddharth Bond. Established as a pre-school, RBIS is currently in the foundational and early years stage, with plans to expand into a full K-12 (CBSE) school. This school holds special significance to Ruskin Bond as he spent the first six years of his childhood in Jamnagar, Gujarat. He once said, "It is a city with a history, a culture of its own and a very vibrant part of Gujarat and of India. It is an ideal place… I am so happy that the school is starting in Gujarat and in Vadodara." RBIS aims to intertwine Bond's captivating stories and characters, like Rusty from The Adventures of Rusty, with modern learning. Classrooms are vibrant and colorful, themed on elements from Bond's world, such as mountains, rainbows, and oceans. Speaking on the school's objective, co-founder Kunal Sharma stated, "We intend to make sure that students experience music, nature walks and other activities." This new institution aims to be a trendsetter for storytelling in academics, nurturing both emotional intelligence and a strong connection to the natural world.
