Like thousands of other Blue Jays fans last week, Steve Hunter donned his jersey and packed into a sports bar to root for his team during Game 1 of the 2025 World Series. There, he joined dozens of other blue-and-white diehards, celebrating the squad as it stepped onto baseball’s biggest stage for the first time in more than three decades. They waved their flags as “O Canada” blared, jumped in ecstasy as Addison Barger blasted his historic grand slam, and doled out high-fives as Eric Lauer delivered the final, game-clinching strikeout. It was a scene not unlike those that unfolded at pubs across Canada on Friday night. But this was no regular watch party. Hunter and the roughly 60 other fans who joined him live in the U.K. They were gathering at a sports bar in central London, some five hours ahead of Toronto. And while much of their city was fast asleep in the wee hours of Saturday morning, they were wide awake, cheering on a team nearly six thousand kilometres away.
