How Anthony Albanese is now channelling TRUMP after meeting the US President

How Anthony Albanese is now channelling TRUMP after meeting the US President Albanese slams 'fake media' narratives READ MORE: Dick Smith issues urgent warning about Australia By NICHOLAS COMINO, NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 00:54 GMT, 27 October 2025 | Updated: 00:59 GMT, 27 October 2025 Anthony Albanese returned to Australia following his meeting with Donald Trump sounding very much like the US President, slamming the news media as 'fake'. The Prime Minister took a series of Trump-style swipes at the media when he was asked about fresh comments by Trump regarding Australian ambassador to the US, Kevin Rudd, on Sunday. On Weekend Today, Albanese was asked if he was considering replacing Rudd, giving a blunt answer. 'No,' he said. 'And frankly, it says more about the journo … who asks the question more than anything else. I was in the room. It was fine.' Albanese continued to slam the press, accusing journalists of chasing 'fake media' narratives and ignoring the real achievements from his trip, echoing Trump's own war on 'fake news.' Fresh from his high-profile White House visit, Albanese insisted his relationship with Trump was 'very strong' and described the talks as an 'enormous success.' Trump, who once branded Rudd someone he 'didn't like and probably never will', appeared to bury the hatchet during the summit, reportedly telling the ambassador 'all is forgiven.' Albanese (right) channelled Trump (left) while backing Rudd attacking 'fake media' narratives However, as he departed for Asia late Friday, the President made a fresh jab at Rudd. 'I think he said a long time ago something bad. You know, when they say bad about me, I don't forget,' Trump said. Before his diplomatic posting, Rudd had called Trump 'a traitor to the West' and 'the most destructive president in history,' remarks that were later deleted from his social media. His four-year term as ambassador runs until March 2027. The Prime Minister's combative tone raised eyebrows, given Labor's previous attacks on Peter Dutton's Coalition for embracing 'Trump-style politics.' During the election, Albanese's team accused the opposition of importing US-style division, yet here was the PM borrowing from Trump's playbook, railing against the media and dismissing uncomfortable questions. 'What was important was the issues of substance. That's what I'm focused on,' Albanese told Weekend Sunrise, adding that Trump's response was unsurprising given the 'leading question' he was asked. Donald Trump on Friday said that he wouldn't 'forget' about Rudd's negative comments During the visit, Albanese and Trump struck a major critical minerals deal aimed at breaking China's grip on rare earth supply chains. The framework promises billions in investment and faster approvals for joint projects, alongside renewed U.S. backing for the AUKUS nuclear submarine pact. Albanese hailed the agreement as a cornerstone of his 'Future Made in Australia' strategy, while Trump boasted of 'months of work' to secure vital materials for defence and technology industries. Opposition Deputy Leader Sussan Ley had initially demanded Rudd's sacking, calling his position 'untenable.' But after the summit won bipartisan praise, she softened her stance, conceding the ambassador had played a key role in delivering the minerals deal. Albanese and Trump are now in Kuala Lumpur for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister will travel to Gyeongju, South Korea, for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, where a high-stakes meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected, with hopes of easing escalating trade tensions.
