AgenciesAkash credits his parents for his success
Not long ago, 28-year-old Akash Hingu would fall asleep to the hum of his father’s sewing machine every night. Growing up in Harsurpur village in Lathi taluka of Gujarat’s Amreli district, he watched his father, Manish, work late into the night on small tailoring jobs from a makeshift cabin without a signboard, while his mother, Sumitaben, helped by hemming sarees.Today, that life feels like a distant memory. After securing seventh rank in the Gujarat Public Service Commission exam, Akash joined the government in December 2022, reported The Times of India. He now serves as an assistant professor (Class-II) in the Gujarat Education Service at the Government Arts, Commerce and Science College, Umarpada. The change is evident back home. The kutcha house where he grew up is now pucca, with a concrete roof, tiled floors, an LED television, air-conditioner, and washing machine. His parents continue tailoring but now choose work selectively during the day.Akash’s journey from village boy to respected professor was far from smooth. Despite scoring well in Class 12, financial constraints and limited awareness of career options kept him in Amreli, where he pursued a BSc in Physics at Kamani Science College.Only in 2017 did he move to MS University of Baroda, earning a master’s degree in nuclear physics and bagging three gold medals. “Financial constraints meant staying in a govt-run Samras hostel and relying on scholarships,” Akash recalls. “I would avoid social gatherings citing health issues or studies, because I simply could not afford extra expenses.”Live EventsThe turning point came when he began working as a temporary assistant professor while pursuing his PhD, later earning the INSPIRE fellowship from the Department of Science and Technology.“Bagging that govt job while pursuing my PhD changed my social status,” says Akash, who has since been felicitated multiple times, including by his school. With inputs from ToIAdd as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
