Housebuilder Lovell, currently building a mixed-tenure development in Winchburgh, is helping therapeutic gardens flourish in West Lothian with a £500 donation to Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH). The Lovell Central Square development, at the heart of the £1 billion Winchburgh masterplan will include 176 energy-efficient homes, with 69 available for social rent in partnership with Wheatley Group, supported by Scottish Government funding and 107 for private sale by Lovell Homes. To raise funds the Lovell office and construction teams organised a sponsored ‘Colourful Clothing Day’ and proceeds will support ‘Therapeutic Horticulture’ sessions at SAMH Wellbeing Hubs in Boghall and St John’s Hospital in Livingston. From potting plants to pruning, gardening has been shown to reduce anxiety and improve mood. Research by Edinburgh Napier University, published in 2020, found that increased access to green space provides significant mental health benefits. Tony Rankin, regional managing director at Lovell, said: “At Lovell, we’re dedicated to creating thriving communities where people can really flourish. Supporting initiatives like SAMH’s therapeutic gardens is about creating spaces where people can build confidence, improve well-being and feel connected. We’re very pleased to play a part in making that happen.” Nicole Parry, Community & Events Fundraiser (East) at SAMH, said: “We’re grateful to companies like Lovell that support our mental wellbeing strategies.
