House Of Guinness star Anthony Boyle has opened up about his nude scene in the hit Netflix drama.
Those who’ve watched the show will no doubt remember the sequence in episode three in which Anthony’s character, Arthur Guinness, could be seen enjoying a cigar and a drink in the bath, before getting out and being tended to by a servant.
During a recent interview with Men’s Health, the Northern Irish actor was asked about his memorable nude scene, confirming: “It’s not a prosthetic. It’s my own body.”
Pointing out that he’d already been naked on both stage and screen before, he went on to reveal that the nude scene in House Of Guinness was partly his own idea.
“I sort of wrote that aspect into the scene,” he claimed. “It was the night before we were filming, and he was in the script originally meant to be getting his cufflinks on by the mirror.
“That felt a bit boring, so I called the director and said, ‘I think he should be smoking and drinking whiskey in the bath, and he should be completely naked and just get up, to show that he owns the whole fucking world’. He wouldn’t even have to say anything to say, ‘I’m above these servants. This is my world. I am dominant, and I control everything’. That’s what I wanted to show.”
During a prior interview with Town & Country, Anthony shared how he did feel slightly daunted by Netflix’s wide reach before he shot Arthur’s bath scene.
“When I did that, I was sat in that bath and I was like, ‘Oh wait, it’s gonna be like millions of people’,” he quipped.
Anthony added: “When I’m [filming,] on the day, all’s I’m thinking about is the person sat in front of me, the active character – I’m thinking about their eyes or their body in the space and just thinking about just them.
“My focus is usually on the other person, less so than what I’m experiencing, but on the day that you’re getting naked, you’re like, ‘Oh god, I hope my fucking granny doesn’t see this!’.”
Following its debut on Netflix last month, House Of Guinness is still one of the UK platform’s most-watched shows right now.
At the time of writing, it currently holds the number two position behind the latest iteration of Monster, featuring Charlie Hunnam as the notorious serial killer Ed Gein.
