House of Chiefs hails Nana Konadu’s legacy as symbol of national progress

The National House of Chiefs has paid tribute to former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a trailblazer whose life of service transformed the lives of women and children across the country. In a statement issued on Friday, the traditional leadership body said the news of her passing had been received “with profound sadness,” noting that the nation had lost “a woman of courage, conviction, and compassion.” “Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings will be remembered for her tireless advocacy for women’s rights and empowerment,” the statement said. “Through the 31st December Women’s Movement, she promoted education, healthcare, and economic independence for countless women and children.” The House of Chiefs also praised her leadership in shaping national dialogue on gender equality and social justice, saying she championed such causes long before they became mainstream. “As a devoted wife and partner, she provided steadfast counsel and support to her late husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings, during a defining era in Ghana’s history,” the statement added. The House expressed condolences to the Rawlings family and all Ghanaians, describing Nana Konadu as “a remarkable mother, leader, and stateswoman whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.” Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed away on Thursday (23 October) at the Ridge Hospital. Her death marks the end of an era for one of Ghana’s most influential political and social figures.
