Horror plane crash sees man dead at Scottish airfield as emergency crews scrambled

A man has tragically lost his life following a plane crash at an airfield in Kinross, Scotland. The 81-year-old pilot was declared dead at the scene at the Scottish Gliding Centre near Scotlandwell on Monday afternoon. A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed that the Air Accidents Investigation Branch had been notified about the incident. Emergency services, including paramedics, police and fire crews, were all scrambled to the scene just before 2pm. There have been no reports of any other casualties. The man's identity has not been released , but his next of kin have been informed, reports the Daily Record . In a statement, the force said: "Around 1.40pm on Monday, October 27, we received a report of a light plane crash at an airfield near Scotlandwell, Kinross. "Emergency services attended and an 81-year-old man, the pilot, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware. "No one else was injured. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been informed and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances." Local MSP Jim Fairlie also took to Facebook to express his condolences regarding the incident. He said: "I am deeply sorry to hear of the loss of life in this tragic accident. My thoughts are with everyone affected, especially the loved ones of the individual who has died. "I would also like to pay tribute to the emergency responders who attended the scene and to those in the local area who will be feeling the impact of this very sad event." A representative from SAS stated: "We received a call at 1.40pm to attend an incident in Portmoak, Kinross. We dispatched an ambulance, two special operations response teams (SORT), a critical care paramedic (CCP) to the scene." A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service reported: "We were alerted at around 1.44pm on Monday, 27 October, to an incident involving a light aircraft in Portmoak, Kinross. "Operations Control mobilised three appliances and a specialist resource to the area. "Sadly, a man was found to have passed away at the scene. There were no other casualties reported.
