Horror pictures have revealed the aftermath of a major car crash in Rochdale on Sunday (October 26). Emergency crews were called to the serious collision on the A627(M) northbound, between the M62 and Rochdale. A car is understood to have struck a large road sign before crashing and flipping over onto its roof. The wreckage was left in the middle of the carriageway and seen smoking in social media footage. Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE A man, believed to be the only person involved, was taken to hospital for treatment after getting out of the car before emergency services arrived. The A627(M) was completely closed off northbound following the incident, with multiple police and ambulance vehicles seen in attendance, along with fire crews. Other videos showed the crushed grey car on its roof with smoke plumes seen coming from the bonnet. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers responded to an incident on A627 in Rochdale after reports that a vehicle overturned after colliding with a road sign and streetlighting. "One male was taken to hospital and is being treated for his injures. Our officers are on the scene and there may be some delays following lane closures to ensure the safe recovery of those involved." There was heavy traffic as a result on the M62 in both directions approaching junction 20 for Rochdale following the incident. As of 5pm, the northbound carriageway of the A627 (M) remained blocked. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added: "At around 2:45pm this afternoon (Sunday, October 26), firefighters were called to reports of a crash on the A627 in Rochdale near Sandbrook retail park. “Two fire engines from Rochdale fire station, along with the technical rescue unit from Ashton fire station, quicky arrived at the scene where a car had crashed into the streetlighting and overturned. "One male casualty self-rescued from the vehicle before the arrival of the fire service.
