Horrific tragedy after mugging victim dared robber to shoot him in crime-ridden Minneapolis

A mugging victim in crime-ridden Minneapolis dared his robber to shoot him – and ended up paying with his life.

Jermaine Jabaar Typray Baker, 35, died after being shot 13 times by a gunman police have identified as Tyrone de Shun Childs Jr., 21.

Childs had apparently demanded for Baker to ‘give me that.’

Baker replied: ‘You’re going to have to shoot me.’

The alleged shooter opened fire ‘at close range,’ Minneapolis police said, and supposedly continued shooting Baker even after he had fallen to the ground.

Childs then appeared to rummage through the victim’s pockets.

He ‘casually’ left the scene to go into an apartment of ‘a woman he shares a child with.’

The shooting happened on August 27 at around 2.08am on the 800 block of Hennepin Avenue.

Childs was charged with second-degree murder, attempted robbery and second-degree assault.

Crystal Henry-Smith, Baker’s mother, told KIMT News 3: ‘We want justice.’

It was only one incident in the recent string of shootings that have plagued Minneapolis during a violence-filled summer.

That same day, a mass shooting at the Church of the Annunciation killed two children and injured 21 other people.

One day earlier, on August 26, a man in his 20s was shot and killed in Minneapolis.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty – branded ‘America’s wokest DA’ – has been slammed for her soft-on-crime policies and accused of emboldening criminals in Minneapolis.

Moriarty recently introduced a new policy where the county attorney’s office will no longer press charges if police pull someone over for a minor issue and find illegal drugs or a gun.

Infractions that will now be ignored include expired plates, a broken tail light or excessively tinted windows.

Exceptions will be made in cases involving clear public safety threats.

In May, the US Department of Justice announced a civil rights investigation regarding whether Moriarty’s attorney’s office was making prosecutorial decisions based on race.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi said then in a press release: ‘This Department of Justice will avail itself of every tool at its disposal to protect all Americans from illegal DEI discrimination.’

The latest violent incidents in Minneapolis happened on September 16 – when at least 13 people were injured during two mass shootings on the same day at homeless encampments.

An unidentified 21-year-old man was also wounded during the August 27 shooting.

He was dropped off at Hennepin Healthcare with a ‘non-life-threatening gunshot wound’ about 20 minutes after shooting, according to police.

Crime in Minneapolis exploded after the murder of black man George Floyd by police officer Derek Chauvin in May 2020.

A series of ‘equitable’ policies were blamed for spikes in chaos and a decline in locals’ quality of life.
