When it comes to managing accommodation for asylum seekers, the Home Office may have been “operating in an extremely challenging environment”, but its “chaotic response” has shown it “has not been up to that challenge”. That was the damning verdict of the MPs on the Home Affairs Committee. They said the Home Office has repeatedly cut corners, wasted taxpayers money and rushed “to deliver short-term solutions that later unravelled”. The government said it’s working hard to end the use of asylum hotels completely.
