Congress party workers and members of the public paid homage on Sunday to M.R. Reghuchandrabal, the senior Congress leader and former Excise Minister who died here on Saturday aged 75. The mortal remains were kept at his residence in Sasthamangalam, the Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee office and the Drishya Auditorium, Kanjiramkulam, for the public to pay their last respects. The cremation was held at Kanjiramkulam on Sunday evening. Reghuchandrabal was Minister for Excise in the K. Karunakaran Cabinet from July 2, 1991, to March 16, 1995. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly twice; from Kovalam in 1980, and from Parassala in 1991. He has also served as president of the Kanjiramkulam panchayat. Reghuchandrabal was born on March 12, 1950, to M. Raghavan Nadar and Kamala Bhai. He was also active in the cultural sphere, composing songs and writing several plays. He leaves behind wife C.M. Omana and two sons. Senior leaders condoled the death. In a message on Saturday, Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan recalled Reghuchandrabal’s contributions to building the Congress party in Thiruvananthapuram district. Kerala Assembly Speaker A.N. Shamseer said, as an MLA, Reghuchandrabal actively involved himself in the business of the House. Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala remembered Reghuchandrabal as a politician who took an active interest in the problems of the people.
