The new shop is to open in Merchants Quay Shopping Centre, Co Cork before the end of the year. The move is part of a European expansion of the brand which will also see shops opened in the UK and the Netherlands – a major turnaround from where the retailer was nine years ago. His Master’s Voice (HMV), which is known worldwide for its iconic logo showing a dog listening to a record player, reopened its Dublin branch in 2023, followed by a shop in Co Limerick. Advertisement Phil Halliday, Managing Director at HMV said the retailer plans to open more stores across Ireland and mainland Europe. In a statement today HMV said the expansion reflects “confidence in the future of physical media and its renewed focus on prime high-street locations”. In recent years physical media such as vinyl records and turntables have regained popularity. HMV stores sell vinyl, CDs, film and TV content, as well as popular culture merchandise, books, turntables and headphones.
