A historic Stourbridge building could be transformed into a huge new retirement complex with apartments and two care homes. The Titan Works site on Old Wharf Road has been a major industrial landmark since the 1800s when it was developed by Jones and Attwood Ltd as a foundry, warehouse and manufacturing plant. MACC Care Ltd now proposes to provide 150 care home beds and 39 apartments on the 2.6 acre site. The complex will include a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and a variety of shared amenities including outdoor spaces plus lounges, hairdressers, cafes, a gym, a cinema and day rooms. The vacant Titan House building will be retained and converted into apartments alongside an adjacent building which would be partially demolished then extended. Buildings at the rear of the site will be removed to make way for new development ranging from three to five storeys in height. To the north of the proposed development is a sandstone rock face which contains three World War 2 air raid shelters. MACC said: " Along the whole length of the northern boundary would be a 5m standoff zone from the rockface. "The three air raid shelters within the rockface will not be tampered with and will be maintained as is, and access to these can still be achieved by interested parties as necessary."
