Dhaka: Amid political unrest in Bangladesh reports of Hindu temple vandalism have emerged from the neighbouring country. Temples were reportedly vandalised in 11 districts during the Navdurga celebrations. The President of the National Puja Celebration Council (Bangladesh) reacted to the incidents assuring that Durga Puja preparations are in full swing nationwide and that government advisors are taking special care of security for the festivals smooth conduct. What Did President Of National Puja Celebration Council (Bangladesh) Say? Bashudeb Dhar President of the Council while speaking at the historic Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka said that Devi Paksha has started and the Hindu people living in the neighbouring country are ready for the celebrations. He informed that a total of 33355 Devi pujas have been organised by he council across the country. Since Mahalaya (September 21) the Devi Paksha has started and we are ready for celebrations. Throughout the country a total of 33355 pujas have been organised this year... We are currently at the Dhakeshwari National Temple. This is the central puja of Bangladesh... We are all ready to celebrate Durga Puja... This temple was vandalised twice after Independence Dhar told ANI. • Amid political unrest reports say Hindu temples were vandalised in 11 districts of Bangladesh. • Council President Bashudeb Dhar said Devi Paksha has begun with 33355 pujas organised nationwide. • Dhar recalled past incidents of vandalism but assured that Durga Puja preparations are in full swing. • The Council held a crucial meeting with the Home Advisor. The five-day festival started on September 28 and will end on October 2. On the last day devotees will immerse idols of the deity. On vandalisation of temples Dhar mentioned about recent challenges and said last year there were situations after August 5 and some temples were vandalised but the government took strict action against the miscreants. Crucial Meeting With Bangladesh Home Advisor Dhar said that the Council conducted a very crucial meeting with the Home Advisor and senior officials. This year vandalism occurred in 11 districts. We also held a meeting with the Home Advisor and other advisors... They assured us that they will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of the puja celebrations he said. He added that security has been beefed up at Durga pandals and temples. It is to be noted that the major festivities will start with Maha Panchami on September 27. The next day will be Maha Shasthi followed by Maha Saptami on September 29 and Maha Ashtami on September 30 Maha Nabami will be celebrated on October 1. (With agency inuputs)
