Hilary Duff‘s iconic song “What Dreams Are Made Of” may be one of her most memorable hits, but she says she was really never allowed to perform it. The 38-year-old actress appeared on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast on Wednesday (Nov. 5) where she opened up about the peak of her Lizzie McGuire fame in the early 2000s. During the episode, Duff looked back on recording “What Dreams Are Made Of” and admitted that she had really no memory of laying down the track. “I don’t even remember recording that song,” Duff revealed, adding that at the time she didn’t even really like the song. “It was a weird time and it wasn’t technically my song. It was a Lizzie McGuire song.” 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 She continued, “I just think that there was like such a separation back then of like me and my music and Lizzie McGuire.” Duff went on to say that she “really didn’t get to perform that song live” because she “didn’t own it” so when she toured, it was almost exclusively her own original music. While it may not have been her favorite song back in the day, Duff says she now “loves it” and when she sings it, she “feels a lot of joy.” In fact, Duff teased that if she were to go on tour again, she’d probably get the chance to perform it. “But if I would ever tour again, I think, maybe, I would be allowed to manage to sing that song somehow, someway,” she said. “Maybe, you know, just maybe like hypothetically.” While Duff didn’t drop any official news about an upcoming tour, back in October, she shared a clip from a rehearsal room where “What Dreams Are Made Of” could be heard playing in the background. “I’ve had a 25 plus year career and obviously it’s taken a lot of twists and turns and ups and downs and all of those things but I have this crazy connection with fans that I’ve known since I was nine, 10-years-old. I just want to like connect with them again now,” Duff shared. You can hear all that Hilary duff had to say below.
