High school soccer and field hockey regional finals postponed due to forecast

Maine high school soccer and field hockey fans looking forward to the remaining regional championships this week will have to wait one more day. The Maine Principals’ Association, which oversees high school sports in Maine, announced Wednesday morning that the final soccer and field hockey regional championships originally slated for later in the day have been pushed back to Thursday due to the weather forecast. “Due to the forecast of deteriorating weather conditions across the state this afternoon and evening, the Soccer Regional/Division Championships and the Field Hockey Regional Championships presented by Hammond Lumber Company scheduled for today have been postponed to Thursday, November 6,” the MPA said in a statement. “All events will be held at the same sites and times as originally scheduled.” The North regional field hockey championships will now take place at Hampden Academy on Thursday. The Class A North final between Skowhegan and Mt. Ararat of Topsham will be at 7:30 p.m. in Hampden on Thursday. Belfast is the top ranked team in Class B North, and will play No. 3 Nokomis Regional High School of Newport at 5:30 p.m. Foxcroft Academy is No. 1 in Class C North and will face off against No. 3 Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield at 3:30 p.m. Several regional soccer championships were already played Tuesday night, including the win by Bangor girls soccer in Class A North and Class C boys victory for Orono. Other matchups yet to take place include the Class B North girls title game between Hermon and Skowhegan, and the Class B boys game featuring John Bapst of Bangor and Oceanside of Rockland. Those games will take place Thursday at Cameron Stadium in Bangor. Brewer High School will be hosting the 8-player North soccer championships, now on Thursday.
