Here's what to know about Nebraska homecoming week

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s homecoming week will kick off Saturday with a 5K fun run, followed by parades and festivities throughout next week.
This year’s theme is “Scarlet City,” reimagining the Emerald City from “Wicked.”
Community members are welcome to participate in the 5K on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, starting and ending at the Nebraska Union on the UNL City Campus, according to a news release.
For the first year, the Multicultural Greek Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council will host a Homecoming Yard Show, showcasing unity across culturally based fraternal organizations through stepping, strolling and chanting. The inaugural event will take place on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Nebraska Union Plaza.
Battle of the Bands will return for a second year, allowing bands featuring UNL students to compete at the Bourbon Theatre from 8-10 p.m. on Wednesday. Student attendees will vote for their favorite bands, and the top two groups will compete in a finale at the Cornstock Festival on Oct. 3.
The Cornstock Festival, free to the public, will take place 5-8 p.m. on the plaza to the east of Memorial Stadium. Grilled corn and kettle corn will be available for free with other food available for purchase. Face painters, balloon artists and hayrack rides will be available to attendees.
The annual homecoming parade will begin Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. The free parade will start south of the Nebraska Union, moving east on R Street to North 16th Street, then to Vine Street, North 14th Street and clockwise on the East Stadium Loop, ending south of the Coliseum. Free parking will be available in the garage at 14th Street and Avery Avenue.
The parade will include floats built by recognized student organizations, the Cornhusker Marching Band, the Spirit Squad and 2025 homecoming royalty.
A market on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. near the Nebraska East Union will feature local and student-made products and lawn games. Free food will be available to students with their NCard.
Inside UNL’s Love Library, the homecoming exhibition “Husker History: Campus Memories in Motion” will be on display from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday. Attendees should RSVP, the release said.
A community blood drive will take place Monday through Thursday in the Nebraska Union’s Centennial Room and Oct. 3 in the Nebraska East Union. UNL students, staff and faculty are eligible to donate blood and can sign up online.
The Husker Pantry is hosting a canned food drive from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Food and other essential items can be taken to the University Health Center’s north entrance. Donations can also be made via the pantry’s Amazon wish list.
