Here’s where to access food in Sonoma, Napa counties following CalFresh cuts

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... As CalFresh benefits for November remain undistributed, about 54,000 residents in Sonoma and Napa counties face questions this week of where to find groceries. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a little over a week ago that benefits of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, would not be issued starting this month. About 43,000 Sonoma County residents and nearly 11,000 more in Napa County access SNAP, which is called CalFresh in California. In response, federal judges ruled late last week that the Agriculture Department must disburse SNAP benefits using emergency reserve funds during the government shutdown, which entered its second month on Saturday. As uncertainty continues regarding the status of Cal Fresh and if people receive full or partial funds, food banks are gearing up to address a potentially growing community need.
