Hello Kitty Is Becoming a Movie Star

Hollywood’s next biggest star is five apples tall. A Hello Kitty movie is coming to theaters on July 21, 2028. Sigh, it’s too far away. Maybe Janelle Monáe’s time travel skills can help us out with the wait. Kitty dropped the news on October 29 via water tower; she posted a video of herself in front of the Animaniacs’ home, aka the Warner Bros. Water Tower, with a bow just like hers painted onto the logo. “The film marks Hello Kitty’s Hollywood theatrical debut as Hello Kitty and her friends embark on a cinematic adventure sure to delight audiences of all ages,” the studio shared in a statement to Variety. Written by Wicked’s Dana Fox and directed by Leo Matsuda, the animated film is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and New Line Cinema, the same company that made the Austin Powers and The Lord of the Rings movies. There are no plot details yet, but it’s hard not to think of ideas with the colorful cast of Sanrio as your muse. Keroppi deserves to be a star and Tuxedo Sam is already dressed for the premiere. It’s a surprise that Hello Kitty hasn’t made it to the big screen sooner besides a Ready Player One cameo — the girl loves movies. She’s a meet-and-greet character at Universal Studios theme parks, and her first television series, Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale Theater, is literally the Sanrio pals parodying popular movies of the 80s. In the series, Kitty plays beloved characters like Princess Leia and E.T. She has the range, darling!
