Heiress found dead in flat after hospital sent her home as mum says 'England is crying'

A woman has died after she was turned away from two hospitals with an insect bite, according to her mother. Greek heiress Marissa Laimou, also known as Lemos, was discovered by her housekeeper deceased in bed on September 11 in her opulent London flat. Greek media reported the 28-year-old had developed itching , dizziness, a fever and other signs of infection three days previously. Laimou was then prescribed paracetamol by a doctor who came to her home, but the condition did not improve, reports the Daily Mail . The woman – who had recently beaten breast cancer – then visited her oncologist at a London hospital. She was then sent to another hospital in an ambulance where she was examined by nurses who decided – again – she did not need to be admitted. Laimou was discharged in the early evening with antibiotics and a diagnosis that referred to an insect bite. The next day she was discovered dead, with her mum Bessy telling Greek media the toxic shock caused by an insect bite killed her. It is currently unclear what type of insect bit her. Bessy said: “My daughter had survived cancer and died from an insect. She was a girl with so many gifts, all of England is crying, all her doctors too.” Relatives claimed the autopsy had not been yet carried out, with her aunt saying the family would have to wait for answers until the post-mortem is complete. The hospital has admitted a serious mistake was made over the diagnosis of Laimou, with an internal investigation now underway. The heiress had recently staged a production of Romeo and Juliet in London and was about to get involved in another theatre project. Her friends described her as talented, modest and devoted to the arts. Laimou had previously worked alongside John Galliano and Sonia Rykiel in Paris before she founded Rainbow Wave, a company that brought international brands to London shops. The Laimos are a famous family from Greece and have business roots in shipping stretching back to the early 20th Century. In a separate, harrowing ordeal, a woman found herself in hospital fighting for her life earlier this year, after a seemingly innocuous spider bite escalated into a grave infection that doctors claimed could have been fatal had it worsened. Taylor Devaprasad, 29, experienced the nightmare scenario when a spider slipped into her bedroom through an open window on May 24, 2025, and bit her on the back of her knee as she slept. Initially dismissing the sensation as a trivial bite, Taylor was soon to discover the severity of her situation. Her condition deteriorated rapidly; within two days, her leg swelled to the extent that bending it became impossible.
