US President Donald Trump on Monday announced through a social media post on Truth Social that US will impose substantial Tariffs on any Country that does not make its furniture in the United States. He added that further details regarding the tariff will be announced soon. His Truth Social post said, “In order to make North Carolina, which has completely lost its furniture business to China, and other Countries, GREAT again, I will be imposing substantial Tariffs on any Country that does not make its furniture in the United States. Details to follow!!! President DJT.” Meanwhile, Trump announced new import tariffs, including a 50 per cent duty on kitchen cabinets and vanities and a 30 per cent tariff on upholstered furniture, effective October 1. These tariffs are expected to push up costs, making it harder for companies to keep prices low. Industry leaders have expressed worries about limited US manufacturing capacity, as the market depends heavily on imports from countries like China, Mexico, and Vietnam. 100% Traiff On Movies Made Outside Of The US In another social media post on Truth Social, the US President announced a 100 per cent tariff will be levied on all movies produced outside the United States. “Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing ‘candy from a baby.’ California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit. Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100 per cent Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump stated. While the directive primarily targets Hollywood’s foreign competition, the move could also significantly affect Indian cinema. Given that the tariff applies to all international films, India’s vibrant film industry might face steep barriers to accessing the US market.
