The Government says it has begun the process to secure land in Drury for a new hospital and health precinct to serve Auckland’s fast-growing southern communities.

Health Minister and MP for Pakuranga, Simeon Brown, says Health New Zealand is calling for expressions of interest from landowners for a suitable site, marking “a major milestone in expanding health infrastructure to meet the needs of Auckland’s growing population”.

It comes as hospitals across the region are under pressure, particularly Middlemore and Auckland City, which are struggling to meet rising demand.

Brown says a new facility in the south will add more beds, modern operating theatres, and expanded emergency services, easing that strain and improving access to care.

“South Auckland is one of our fastest-growing communities, with significant health challenges.

“A new hospital in the south will help ensure Kiwis get timely, quality healthcare.”

The chosen site will need easy access to key transport routes, including State Highway 1 and Waihoehoe Road, to support patients, staff, and visitors, Brown says.

The request for information process, run by Health NZ, is open until November 6.
