TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin supports Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung's moves to prepare the development of an international hospital on the land of Sumber Waras Hospital in West Jakarta. He believes the proposal is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to build quality hospitals."Let's build a quality hospital," Minister Budi said after meeting Pramono at the Ministry of Health building in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.Budi hopes that the presence of an international hospital will reduce the number of patients seeking treatment overseas. "This is intended to reduce the number of patients going abroad, many of them from Jakarta," said Budi. The meeting also discussed several options for financing the construction of the international hospital, but Budi stopped short of giving the details. But the minister said he also discussed the healthcare force required to run the hospital."The doctors must have an international standard quality to truly prevent wealthy Jakartans from seeking healthcare overseas," said Budi.Governor Pramono Anung said the Jakarta government has readied around 3.6 hectares of land for the construction. This move came against the backdrop of anti-graft agency KPK stopping the probe into the purchase of Sumber Waras Hospital land a while back. Pramono claimed that the land is owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government.Pramono plans to turn Sumber Waras Hospital into an international hospital due to its strategic location. "The location is very strategic, close to other private hospitals," said Pramono.Pramono also proposed two options to the Minister of Health. First, to turn Sumber Waras Hospital into a National Strategic Project (PSN). Pramono hopes that the central government will approve this proposal. Second, Jakarta will independently develop Sumber Waras Hospital as an international hospital. However, Pramono hopes that the Ministry of Health will help provide the equipment."Later, we will coordinate with the central government regarding these matters," he said.Previously, the KPK said it had stopped the investigation process regarding the recovery and utilization of land assets owned by the Sumber Waras Health Foundation by the Jakarta Provincial Government in 2023. The agency cited insufficient evidence.M Raihan Muzakki contributed to the writing of this article.Editor’s Choice: Indonesia Launches UAE-Backed Cardiology Hospital in Solo CityClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
