Health Authorities Present Update on Interventions Post-Trubarevo Fire

In Trubarevo, last night, until 12 pm today, the emergency medical teams performed 13 interventions, while one person was taken to a hospital and an immobile person was transported to another settlement, the Health Ministry said on Monday.

The institution added it was following the post-fire situation, stressing that the healthcare system was mobilized to deal with the new challenges. Just one person that underwent an intervention was taken to a hospital, that is, to the Toxicology Clinic. Minister Aliu added that measures according to circumstances would be taken in the period ahead.

Toxicology Clinic Director Argjend Imeri stressed that the condition of the patient admitted to his institution was good. As he explained, she’s been held for treatment because she had other accompanying symptoms.

“However, what’s most important is that her condition is good. Today, another three patients have undergone an outpatient department examination at the Clinic and been discharged home”, Imeri stressed.

Also on Monday, at a briefing with journalists over the Trubarevo fire, the State Environment Administration, Igor Nikovski, stated that the company was able, according to the permit, to incinerate up to 20 tonnes of non-hazardous and 500 kg of hazardous waste. However, there’s currently no exact information as to what was being incinerated when the fire broke out.

The information will be available primarily to institutions and then to the public on Friday. Afterwards, there will be new briefings with journalists.

According to the State Environment Inspectorate’s Director, Ivana Ginovska, so far, there’ve been certain results, that is, three times the allowed limit of sulphur dioxide has been registered, as in the case with nitrogen dioxide, in the air, while when it comes to carbon monoxide, 100 times the allowed limit has been registered.

Monday also saw a decision made by Environment Minister Izet Mexhiti to close a waste landfill in Nikostak because the location didn’t meet eco-standards.
