Despite belonging to the glitz and glamour industry, there are some actors who chose to build their own identity in the world of entertainment with their hard work and perseverance. One such actor is Sikandar Kher. He comes from a family of stars, being the son of veteran actress and politician Kirron Kher and Gautam Berry. After his parents’ separation, Kirron married actor Anupam Kher, who then became Sikandar’s stepfather. Born on October 31, 1981, the actor never relied on the shadow of his family. Before facing the camera, Sikandar began his career with theatre and honed his skills on the stage of the National School of Drama (NSD). He began his film journey behind the camera, working as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Shah Rukh Khan’s Devdas. Sikandar then stepped into the showbiz world and made his acting debut with the 2008 Hindi film, Woodstock Villa. He went on to play notable roles in films like Players, Romeo Akbar Walter and Millan Talkies. He has also impressed audiences in the OTT space, displaying his acting skills in films like Monica, O My Darling, available on Netflix. From playing a powerful inspector in Aurangzeb to portraying the intense shade of wealth in the Aarya series, Sikandar showcased his depth and versatility as an actor across genres, from intense dramas to light-hearted comedies. But after his initial success, Sikandar faced a tough phase in his career when offers dried up. He refused to rely on his family’s fame and never sought help from his parents during this period of struggle. But when Sikandar was worried about his future, mom Kirron became his most honest critic of his acting abilities. As Sikandar Kher turns 44, let’s look back at the time when Kirron offered to open a petrol pump for him. During his struggle, Kirron Kher supported him with tough love, saying, “You should continue acting. If I ever feel that you are really a bad actor, I will make you quit your acting career and open a petrol pump for you.” Sikandar Kher will now grace the screens in Ikkis. Helmed by the National Award-winning filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, the project tells the inspiring story of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal – India’s youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra. Khetarpal took on the enemy head-on during the Battle of Basantar, destroying 10 Pakistani tanks before losing his life. Headlined by Agastya Nanda, the film will also see Simar Bhatia, Dharmendra, Jaideep Ahlawat and Deepak Dobriyal in significant roles.
