HBO Adapting French Comedy Series Call My Agent! With Sports Focus

The 10-year-old acclaimed comedy series Call My Agent! is getting an American adaptation at HBO. Debuting in October 2015 and running until November 2020, the French dramedy series centers on talent agents and their relationships with their actor clients. It was originally titled Ten Percent, referring to the percentage of an actor's paycheck that their agent receives. Created by Fanny Herrero, and with a main cast that includes Camille Cottin, Thibault de Montalembert, Grégory Montel, Liliane Rovère, Fanny Sidney, Laure Calamy, Nicolas Maury, Stéfi Celma, and Assaad Bouab, Call My Agent! won Best Comedy Series at the 49th International Emmy Awards. It will soon return for a movie, which will be released on Netflix, followed by Call My Agent! season 5. But that's not the only version of the dramedy in the works, with Variety reporting that an American remake of Call My Agent! is in the works at HBO. The series, which will written and executive produced by The Other Two co-creator Sarah Schneider, will depart from the French version's focus on actors to take a closer look at the sports world. With a specific focus on sports representation, the HBO project will center on four work-obsessed sports agents a they struggle to balance their personal lives and what their clients need. The remake hails from Mediawan, which produced the original series, via Brad Pitt's Plan B. Fulwell Entertainment’s SpringHill Studios, which is led by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, produces alongside Plan B. The original Call My Agent! is available to stream on Netflix. The sports focus is familiar ground for HBO. It had the acclaimed 1990s dramedy Arli$$, which starred series creator Robert Wuhl and Sandra Oh. It ran for seven seasons, focusing on the titular sports agent. The cable network also had Dwayne Johnson's Ballers, which zeroed in on the lives of athletes and featured cameos from star players such as Julian Edelman and Stephen Curry. Call My Agent!, which already has several international remakes, is known for its cameos from French actors like Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Huppert. It even featured Hollywood icon Sigourney Weaver in a season 4 episode. The remake will likely continue the cameo tradition of Ballers and Call My Agent!, given the involvement of LeBron James.
