Hawaiʻi declared “Fiji Day” to honour reggae legend

HAWAI’I Governor Josh Green and other political leaders have officially declared September 13 as “Fiji Day” to pay tribute to the late Pacific reggae musician George “Fiji” Veikoso.

This announcement was made during a special tribute concert at the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell, where over 28,000 fans gathered to celebrate Fiji’s extraordinary life and musical legacy.

Fiji, who passed away on July 23, 2025, left a significant mark on the music scene, influencing both Hawaiʻi and the wider Pacific region.

The tribute concert showcased performances from a diverse lineup of island music artists, each honouring Fiji’s cultural contributions.
