Victim tries to set herself on fire outside CM’s residence
The arrest comes nine days after the complainant, an actress originally from Hapur and now living in Noida’s Sector 53, attempted to set herself on fire outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow. According to her statement, she first met Uttar Kumar in August 2020 while working in the Haryanvi film and music industry. She alleged that he assured her of significant opportunities, including a lead role in a regional film in 2023.
On June 24, 2025, she submitted a written complaint at Shalimar Garden Police Station in Ghaziabad, accusing him of serious misconduct and sexual exploitation. However, she claimed that no FIR was registered at the time. Following her petition to the High Court, an FIR was finally lodged nearly a month later on the court’s directive.
The actress further alleged that even after the FIR was registered, no prompt action was taken. She said she had repeatedly shared the accused’s location details with the police, but no attempts were made to trace or detain him.
Dissatisfied with the pace of investigation, she travelled from Noida to Lucknow on September 6 and staged a protest near the Chief Minister’s residence. She reached the Tango-1 barricade, about 500 meters away, and allegedly attempted to set herself on fire using a flammable substance. On-duty police personnel quickly intervened and stopped her.
According to PTI, the singer lodged a complaint against Kumar on July 18, alleging that he sexually assaulted her between January 1, 2020, and July 31, 2023. Following her statement, police registered an FIR under charges of rape, criminal intimidation, and relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, a police official confirmed.
