Hamilton to host Scotland's biggest free Comic Con event

Hamilton will be taken over by stunning superheroes and colourful characters this weekend as the town’s hugely popular Comic Con event returns to the town centre. The weekend of “fun, fandom and fantastic cosplay” takes place at the Regent Centre on Saturday and Sunday, November 1 and 2, with a huge range of attractions and special events in store. Visitors are being promised a busy weekend featuring “superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy and frightful fun” with a huge range of attractions including meet-and-greets, workshops, classes, inflatables and stalls. The Hamilton event is being run by BGCP Comic Con, supported by business improvement district organisation Hamilton Our Town, and runs from 10am to 4pm each day at the shopping centre on Quarry Street. It follows the successful return of the 2024 event to the town for the first time in five years, with hundreds of fans gathering last year for a busy and much-enjoyed weekend – and anticipation is already building for the 2025 version. Organisers describe the Hamilton event as “Scotland’s biggest free comic con” and say: “We can’t wait for you to meet your favourite characters – there will be free meet-and-greet opportunities, perfect for snapping some great photos – and there’s truly something for every fan.” Stalls at the event will include comic books, action figures, handmade crafts, artwork, plushies, trading cards, dice, fun mystery bags, Funko Pop figures, Lego sets and anime merchandise. The free programme for visitors of all ages also includes superhero inflatables, movie and TV prop displays, and free arcade games, and Hamilton Information Project for Youth will be running a selection of free craft activities across the two days. With the event taking place on Halloween weekend, organisers add that costumes and cosplay are “absolutely encouraged” as the town centre transforms for the comic event, with BGCP adding: “It’s time to let your imagination shine.” Hamilton Our Town added: “The countdown has officially started – this Saturday and Sunday, the Regent shopping centre transforms into a world of superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy and frightful fun. “Come in costume, bring the family, and join the Halloween-themed Comic Con excitement, all for free.” The event is the first in a busy period for Hamilton town centre, with a festive lights switch-on, Christmas events and community panto Pinocchio all planned for the next two months. * Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
