SARASOTA, FL — A Sarasota bar is honoring one of its workers, who recently lost her life to cancer but was hoping to make a comeback by hosting a Halloween party on Friday, one she’d planned before her death. Nick’s Bar is holding its Halloween party Friday, 8 p.m. to close. Megan Yost died Sept. 3 after overcoming a battle with breast cancer and then later having the cancer return and spread throughout her body, her friend, Michelle Hanna, told Patch. “She had Stage 4 cancer all over,” Hanna said. “She was going to take the bull by the horns and come back bigger and better. She was scared [expletive] but super optimistic.” Yost’s death was “an absolute shock, just a month after finding out she had cancer all over her body,” Hanna added. Initially, Yost thought she had a pinched nerve. Also suffering sciatic issues, Hanna recommended a chiropractor to Yost, as well as a pressure-relief pillow. But after Yost saw several doctors and chiropractors, she eventually learned she had cancer. Despite her diagnosis, she was hopeful for life — ready to face planned chemo and radiation — and eager to return to work, Hanna said. Yost hoped to return to the bar on Halloween and began planning a massive party. “She was so jazzed about it,” Hanna said. Then, her health took a turn for the worst and she passed away, her friend said. Now, the event will take place Friday night as planned and will honor Yost. “I’m sure there will be a lot of funny stories,” Hanna said. “I’m sure people will be apt to bring up the good stuff. She was hilarious. She was absolutely everything.” The bar will be donating proceeds from the Halloween event to Yost’s family, Hanna said.
