Halloween 2025 NYC forecast: Rain and wind could impact trick-or-treaters

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It’s going to be a bumpy weather week as New York City prepares for Halloween. Sunday kicks off the week with sun and fall-like temperatures topping out at 60 degrees, marking a perfectly good day for football and pumpkin patches. The beginning of the workweek is “going to be cool, but not outrageously cold,” according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Bob Larson. Expect “a noticeable breeze” on Monday, with the sun peeking through clouds. Come Tuesday, the wind will pick up a bit as it moves in off the ocean. Larson anticipates the potential for a bit of drizzle as the clouds thicken up throughout the day, though not likely. The sun will be out for a little while as well, temperatures reaching 56 degrees, before things get drearier. Larson predicts Wednesday will “still [be] chilly and breezy, maybe not quite as windy… [we] could start to see a little rain develop… but we think much of Wednesday is dry.” However, Larson warned that Thursday — and yes, even into Halloween Friday — a soaker storm is impending. “At this point in time, we probably don’t want to really refer to it as a nor’easter, because latest information suggests its moving right up the spine of the Appalachians; taking an inland path, not a true nor’easter… [but] I think the effect could be about the same because the rain and wind and whatnot,” Larson explained. The heaviest bit of rain, Larson said, will come Thursday night. “…it’s a good idea in advance to pick up loose objects… A lot of people still have a lot of lawn furniture out. There’s something that could be blown about; deck chairs, so on and so forth,” Larson advised. “The best way to state it and in terms of the rain, just be prepared for travel slowdowns.” Thursday evening and Friday morning’s commute will be messy, so prepare to leave a bit earlier or later in case of backups. Larson’s biggest concern, however, is Halloween trick-or-treaters. The storm is moving slowly at this point, making it feasible that the rain could extend into Halloween afternoon. “I mean, it’s still days away,” Larson said. “[But] that could conceivably happen.” Saturday and Sunday bring New Yorkers back to that crisp fall weather, though. Sun and clouds will punctuate daylight saving time, which will roll us back an hour Sunday night.
