Hallmark Star, 44, Shares Candid Health Update Amid ‘Tough’ Cancer Battle

Hallmark actress Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe took to social media to share a candid update amid her battle with breast cancer. In a video post via Instagram on Thursday, October 30, Lowe, 44, explained she was on her third week of undergoing chemotherapy. “I start week four on Monday,” she said, adding that it will be the “last time” she undergoes that treatment. She then shared that the next steps involve 12 weeks of Taxol, which is a chemotherapy drug used to treat various cancers. Lowe admitted she was “nervous” to start Taxol because she’s never done it before. “I just don’t know what that’s gonna do. Now, apparently those side effects are different. Like, there’s neuropathy stuff. And neuropathy meaning I could lose sensation in my fingers and my toes,” she said. In order to prepare for her next treatment, Lowe said she ordered “freezing cold gloves and feet stuff” to help her not lose feeling. “It is always scary when you’re starting a new drug,” she said. “I’m not somebody who ever did any drugs. Like, I didn’t take anything so this is so weird for me to see how my body’s gonna react.” After she explained her decision to have a PICC line in her arm to receive chemo instead of a port in her chest, Lowe shared a hopeful update. “By the way, Barry — my cancer — is shrinking. I can feel it,” she said. Lowe then added of her treatment, “It’s working, girl. Like this bald look for me is, too.” In addition to the video, Lowe shared an update about how she was feeling in the post’s caption. “A little video I took last week! I’m currently going through my 4th week on that little red devil and ughhhh she’s tough this week,” she said. “But I’m getting through. I really hope that this eases some stress for anyone starting this process. If I can get through so can you.” Shortly after Lowe shared the video, several social media users took to the comments section to show their support. “You are amazing! You’ve shared before that you’re someone who wants to learn everything; this, I’m sure, is something you never wanted to learn. I imagine knowing what’s going on with your body and your treatment gives you a necessary feeling of control. You and Agnes are kicking butt! Barry doesn’t stand a chance. Continued prayers for healing and minimal side effects. And yes, the bald head is working for you!” one person wrote, while another added, “You’re doing amazingly well, you do look amazing as well. Sending my love to you and your family because they also go through it with you in a different way.” Lowe previously announced she was diagnosed with invasive carcinoma stage 3 in an essay written for People on October 10. Two weeks later, she took to Instagram to share a video of her shaving her head amid her chemo treatment. Hiding it was the worst! But doing this … this made me feel like I was in the driver’s seat.” After admitting it was “scary,” she said she wanted “anyone who’s going through this to see that I’m ok. And you will be too.” “Also, I still cried a lot. But after it all…felt so strong. Side note- surround yourself with people that tell you how beautiful you are bald. That is the assignment. And if you don’t have anyone I will tell you!!” Lowe concluded.
