Haiti – Sports : «J-3», Details on the National Inter-University Championship18/09/2025 10:08:14
The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Civic Action, the Ministry of National Education, and the UNESCO Office in Haiti announce the Inter-University Sports Competitions, which will take place from September 21 to November 18, 2025, throughout the country, under the theme : “Sports for Development and Peace”.
This National Inter-University Championship will engage young university students in football, basketball, and chess, not to mention the Peace Marathon scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025 (starting at Delmas 40B and finishing at Place Broyer, in Pétion-ville). Artistic activities and awareness-raising sessions on peace, citizenship, and gender equality will also be organized throughout the Championship.
This competition aims to mobilize public and private universities from the country’s three major regions (West, North, and South) to promote peace, social cohesion, and civic engagement through sports. It also aims to identify and support young athletic talents in preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games.
The official launch will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025, during the celebration of the International Day of Peace. Festivities will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Place Boyer in Pétion-ville and continue at 2:00 p.m. at Parc Sainte-Thérèse.
This day will mark the kickoff of a series of basketball and football matches that will continue until November 18, 2025, the anniversary of the Battle of Vertières.
The opening matches on September 21 will pit an All Stars university team against a Haitian National Police (PNH) team, with speeches and artistic and cultural performances enhancing the day.
This event was made possible thanks to a collaborative effort between national and local authorities, United Nations agencies, the Haitian Olympic Committee, sports federations, as well as technical and financial partners from the private sector and civil society. It is funded by the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) and implemented with the support of UNESCO, participating universities, and local authorities.
