HACC’s faculty union has canceled plans to go back on strike on Wednesday, according to a news release from the college’s education association. The union and the college made “significant progress” during Tuesday’s seven-hour meeting between college and faculty negotiators, HACCEA said. The union had planned to resume striking — faculty and supporters were out of central Pennsylvania classrooms and picketed for two days last week — after a Nov. 5 negotiation that lasted 12 minutes and produced no progress. Following the last negotiation, HACC said it “remains committed to reaching a fair and fiscally responsible contract.” Faculty at the Harrisburg-based community college unionized in 2022 but have yet to secure a contract. The union represents about 250 active members covering 750 teaching positions across HACC’s campuses, serving more than 12,000 students in five counties.
