The 18th Guyana Medical Research Conference (GMRC) was held on Saturday, featuring 31 presentations of locally driven research from various disciplines in medicine that seek to inform practice, shape policy, and strengthen healthcare systems. The Institute of Health Science Education (IHSE) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), led by Dr Alexandra Harvey, hosted the conference at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre in Kingston under the theme, “From evidence to impact: Advancing care through research.” Health authorities described the GMRC as the premier event of the medical fraternity’s conference calendar, owing to the fact that it has consistently been showcasing a diverse range of research from across the medical spectrum. The aim, since its founding in 2008, is to promote local research.
