The Penn State Nittany Lions opened the season as national title favorite, but suffered a three-game losing streak in the middle of the season that led to head coach James Franklin being fired. Penn State added two more losses to sit at 3-5 on the season with a massive showdown against No. 2 Indiana on the schedule. Playing at home, the Nittany Lions nearly pulled off an epic upset with Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt on the call, but came up just short with a stellar touchdown from the Hoosiers in the waning moments of the fourth quarter. While most fans were enthused with the play on the field, they couldn't quite get over Johnson's performance. "Gus Johnson makes watching a football game a less pleasant experience. Much, much less," offered another. "There's enough electricity coursing through Gus Johnson's body right now to power a major U.S. city," college football writer David Ubben joked. "I used to enjoy Gus Johnson but he’s just way too over the top on every single play now," offered another. Another common theme among fans is having Johnson on the call is great - if you don't have a rooting interest in the contest. "Gus Johnson is elite for games you have no rooting interest in but if your team is about to have a huge loss he must be just brutal to listen to lol," one person said. "There is nothing in sports more insufferable than Gus Johnson when your team is playing terrible," added another. If nothing else, Johnson delivers the energy when it's needed - and even when it's not.
