AgenciesGujarat drunk teacher drags biker A man was carried on the hood of a car for nearly a kilometer on the Modasa-Lunawada highway in Gujarat on Tuesday night after a motorcycle collision. Police said the car did not stop, and the motorcycle remained stuck in the car’s front while one rider was dragged on the hood. The incident happened near Babaliya village, and the driver was later stopped by another commuter. Both motorcycle riders were taken to hospital, and police detained the car occupants along with a liquor bottle found in the vehicle.How the Gujarat hit and run case happenedPolice said Sunil Machhar and his father-in-law, Dinesh Charel, were going home to Lakhanpur village in Dahod district after finishing work in Nikoda village near Himmatnagar. Near Babaliya village, a car hit their motorcycle from behind. Machhar fell to the roadside, but Charel landed on the car’s hood, and the motorcycle got lodged in the front of the vehicle.— motordave2 (@motordave2) Deputy superintendent of police Kamlesh Vasava said the driver continued driving. He said the vehicle moved for around 750 metres before being stopped by another motorist.Family records video, stops carA family travelling on the same route saw the motorcycle stuck in front of the car and Charel on the hood. They recorded the scene and forced the driver to stop.Other commuters and local residents reached the spot and took both injured to hospital.Live EventsDriver identified as teacherPolice said the car was driven by Manish Patel, a resident of Kakachiya village in Mahisagar district and a teacher at Jarod government primary school. His brother, Mehul Patel, a farmer, was also in the car.Vasava said the brothers had gone to Rajasthan to recruit labourers. Police handed them over to the station with the liquor bottle found inside the car.Vasava said police have written to the transport department to cancel Manish’s driving licence. "We will also ask the education department to take action against him," he added.Eyewitness accountAakash Nathani, who was travelling to Godhra with his family, said he saw the incident unfold."We found that the motorcyclists who had been in front of us were missing. We soon realized that one had fallen to the side while the other was on the bonnet of the car with the motorcycle stuck in front," he said.Nathani said he stopped the vehicle. "He was not in his senses. He even asked what the problem was. Strict action should be taken against him," he said.Police actionA case has been filed at Bakor police station in Mahisagar district. Police booked Manish Patel under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for endangering human life, negligence causing grievous hurt, attempted culpable homicide, abetment and mischief causing damage to property.
