A government primary school in Gujarat has introduced an innovative initiative called the 'Year of Questions' to encourage students to engage in critical thinking. This project, implemented at Shri Chandap English Primary School in the Sabarkantha district, aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises the importance of fostering analytical skills in education. Encouraging Inquiry Launched earlier this year, the 'Year of Questions' initiative seeks to inspire curiosity among students and empower them to seek their own answers. The programme encourages children to ask questions rather than simply respond to teachers' inquiries. Assistant teacher Kamlesh Kumar Patel noted, "No question is considered too small or too big. It is a great success for us that no child in our school hesitates to ask questions now." Students can pose their questions either verbally or anonymously through a question box, promoting an open dialogue between teachers and pupils. Patel highlighted that this approach has significantly enhanced students' confidence and engagement in the classroom. Positive Outcomes for Students The initiative has led to notable improvements in students' speaking abilities and self-confidence. Dharmik Nareshbhai, a student at the school, remarked, "It's incredibly helpful as we grow up, and this project is great." His classmate, Laksh Maheshwari, expressed excitement about asking questions, stating, "When I ask questions, I feel motivated to move forward." Parents have also observed positive changes in their children, including enhanced logical thinking and a greater willingness to discuss subjects at home. Rajesh Kumar Maheshwari, a parent, stated, "Teachers answer the queries posed by children, which makes them feel satisfied." Fostering a New Learning Culture Through this education initiative, children are becoming more curious and independent learners. The project not only cultivates critical thinking skills but also encourages students to engage in research and collaborative discussions. As a result, the 'Year of Questions' is paving the way for a transformative educational experience in Gujarat government schools, significantly contributing to the overall development of students.
