Guillermo del Toro's Netflix Movie Charged Up Fans

Netflix is firing up Frankenstein fans ahead of the forthcoming streaming release for Guillermo del Toro‘s new feature adaptation. Over the Halloween weekend, the streaming service coordinated a series of events in the Hollywood area that involved drones and a simulated lightning strike. This led up to a sold-out IMAX screening of the new Frankenstein at the TCL Chinese Theater, where Jason Reitman took the stage after the film to chat with del Toro. Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz star in the feature that is now playing in select theaters before hitting Netflix on Nov. 7. The celebration began Thursday with a 1,500-drone lightning storm above the Hollywood Forever Cemetery that spelled out the title to the Oscar-winning director’s adaptation of the classic Mary Shelley novel. The next day, six coordinated drone shows blended with state-of-the-art technology to simulate a lightning storm above the Hotel Roosevelt and Capitol Records building in Hollywood. Footage of the spectacle is below. That night, Frankenstein fans celebrated Halloween by dressing in their favorite del Toro-inspired costumes to attend the screening at the Chinese Theater. Guests nabbed a custom Frankenstein popcorn bucket and limited edition poster. The Frankenstein celebration also spread to New York City, where similar lightning strikes at the Tiffany & Co. flagship store on Fifth Ave. drew attention to the window displays that reimagine scenes from the movie. “A storm is brewing,” the film’s Instagram account captioned a post showing footage from the drone show. Del Toro discussed the project at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where he emphasized that the finished feature marked the culmination of more than 15 years of planning. “This sort of closes a huge episode in my life,” he noted at the time.
