Automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai had a gala time on the first day of Navratri festival on Monday, witnessing historic record sales as the onset of new GST reform coincides with the beginning of the Indian festival season.India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki recorded retail sales of more than 25,000 units on Monday, expecting it to touch 30,000 soon. It also reported that it received around 80,000 customer enquiries on Monday.”The response from customers has been phenomenal–something we haven’t seen in the last 35 years. On the very first day, we recorded 80,000 enquiries, and have already delivered over 25,000 cars, with deliveries expected to touch 30,000 shortly,” Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki, told ANI.After the announcement of price reduction under GST 2.0, the company has received 75,000 bookings so far, with nearly 15,000 bookings coming in every day, which is about 50% higher than usual. The company executive said that the demand for small cars has been especially strong, with bookings growing by nearly 50%. Commenting on the growing demand, Banerjee said, “Enquiries remain very high, and we may even run out of stock for certain variants. Dealers are staying open late into the night to deliver cars to customers.”Live EventsDomestic automaker Tata Motors announced that it recorded 10,000 deliveries on Monday on the first day of implementation of GST 2.0. A major number of sales came from Delhi-NCR, followed by Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai.The online used-car platform also saw a steep rise in the number of people planning to sell their vehicles, with the company doing over 5,000 inspections in a single day, the highest in the last four years on the platform.Not just automakers and dealers, India’s leading digital ecosystem for automobiles also recorded high traffic. Hyundai Motor India Ltd lead the way with nearly 5% to its day’s high of Rs 2,846.90. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd climbed over 3% to an intraday high of Rs 16,321 per share. SUV-player M&M gained 3% to reach day’s high at Rs 3680 per share. Tata Motors rose over 1% to record intraday high at Rs 707.80. Eicher Motors was up 2% to reach Rs 7123.65 per share, marking its 52-week high.Auto associations are jovialIndian automakers association SIAM highlighted self-reliance and domestic value addition as the auto industry is one of India’s major industries. President of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) DG Rajesh Menon stated that by fostering self-reliance and domestic value addition, the automotive industry will continue to play a pivotal role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed economy.He added that the GST rate cut will bring renewed cheer to consumers and inject fresh momentum into the Indian automotive sector.Speaking about the boost in festive demand on Day 1 of Navratri, FADA President C S Vigneshwar said, “I don’t think this tax reform is for this week, month or the season.
