The Southern Kaduna Renaissance Front (SKRF) has called on Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, House of Representatives member Dan Amos, and other lawmakers from the region to align with the Federal Government in order to secure greater political relevance and development for their people ahead of the 2027 elections.
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the SKRF 2025 Young Persons Political Conference held in Kaduna on September 17, 2025, under the chairmanship of Dr. Monday Barau Madaki. The conference, which brought together youth leaders, community representatives, and stakeholders, deliberated on the theme “Charting a Path to 2027: Alignment or Opposition to the Centre.”
The communiqué, signed by Comrade Sabastine Bahori Luka (Convener) and Pastor Jerome Waziri (Secretary), rejected the description of Southern Kaduna as a minority group, insisting that the area, comprising 12 local government areas, accounts for more than half of Kaduna State’s population.
The conference also dismissed the existing tripodal zoning structure in the state, demanding instead the adoption of two political blocs, North and South, for the distribution of offices and governorship rotation, similar to Nigeria’s presidency.
Delegates further argued that contrary to perceptions, Southern Kaduna contributed significantly to the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) victories in the 2015 and 2019 elections, delivering 40 per cent of the votes in 2015 and 30 per cent in 2019.
While appreciating recent federal interventions such as the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, the conference expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as the poor quality of state-level appointments under Governor Uba Sani, warning that improvement would be necessary before 2027.
The meeting was split on whether the region should adopt a posture of opposition or alliance with the ruling party, though a majority backed strategic alignment with the centre to guarantee greater appointments and infrastructural projects.
It specifically urged Senator Katung, Hon. Dan Amos, Hon. Ali Kalat, and other legislators to reconsider their political alignments in the interest of the region.
The communiqué concluded with a call for Southern Kaduna to field governorship candidates across all major parties in 2027, stressing that the region must no longer be excluded from the state’s top leadership.
