Saturday, 18 Oct., saw a significantly reduced schedule for week five of the CUC Primary Football League as most schools in Grand Cayman were out for mid-term break. Due to an increase in the number of schools participating in the boys’ group A this year, organisers decided to schedule a limited number of games. In the under-9 game, a dominant Island Primary team defeated their hosts Marie Martin Primary School with a 5-1 victory. In the under-11 match, Marie Martin Primary and Island Primary, battled for the top spot in group A. Marie Martin Primary quickly fell behind in the second quarter after Island Primary’s Austin Morales earned a penalty kick following a foul received in the penalty area as he navigated his way past a few Marie Martin Primary defenders. Taking the penalty himself, Morales made no mistake, sending the ball past the keeper, giving Island Primary a 1-0 lead. Marie Martin Primary didn’t back down as Emmanuel Richards tied the game with a powerful shot in the 20th minute. Two minutes later, Richards struck again, scoring a second goal to put the home team ahead, 2-1. In the second half, despite both teams trading chances, neither could find the back of the net giving Marie Martin Primary the win. In the other scheduled under-11 matches, Theoline L. McCoy Primary School was awarded the victory after Cayman International School 11 White failed to appear at the Camana Bay field. The game between Sir John A. Cumber Primary School and Grace Christian Academy was postponed. No games were scheduled for the CUC Girls’ Primary Football League. Games are set to resume at venues across the island on Saturday, 1 Nov. following the end of the mid-term break.
