Greggs to open first ever pub in major UK city

Greggs is launching its first ever pub with customers over-the-moon about its latest announcement. From weekend, firm Greggs fans will be able to enjoy a pasty with a pint as one prominent department store welcomes the chain. Fenwick’s in Newcastle’s Eldon Square will become the home of The Golden Flake Tavern for the next five months. Opening Saturday, September 27, those who wish to be apart of the opening day need to get their skates on as it’s sure to be a popular venue. The Pink Jammie Pale Ale and the Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager have been developed in partnership with the Newcastle-based Full Circle Brew Co for the opening. For those who don’t fancy a beer, there are also set to be a range of Greggs-inspired cocktails alongside the 15-dish strong Greggs-inspired menu. Chicken bake parmo, steak bake mixed grill, sausage roll and mash and a Greggs ploughman’s platter are just a few on the list. And if you thought the bakery chain had forgotten about dessert? You’d be wrong – as there is a number of treats on offer. Whether you would like a yum yum bread and butter pudding, pink jammie trifle or a dish of doughnut pieces set in jelly, topped with jam, custard and whipped cream, Greggs has got you covered. Greggs has even thought about the traditional Sunday roast – but with a twist. Visitors on the last day of the week will be able to choose from a steak bake, chicken bake or cheese and onion bake, alongside trimmings including cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. And in true pub fashion there will even be a quiz night every Tuesday from October 7, with tickets available for a fiver. A total of 88 people can be seated at full capacity, with Greggs advising you book ahead. You can also walk-in to see if you can snag a spot.
