GREENWICH, CT — The town of Greenwich is being recognized by Travel + Leisure as one of the “best places to live on the East Coast.”
The travel magazine’s list ranks Greenwich No. 7 out of 10 municipalities.
Charleston, S.C., leads the way at No. 1, followed by Alexandria, Va.; Gloucester, Mass.; Newport, R.I.; Southampton, N.Y.; Bethesda, Md.; Greenwich, CT; Kennebunkport, Maine; Harrison, N.Y.; and Silver Spring, Md.
“Greenwich, Connecticut, is a perfect mix of suburban town with a small element of beach town and city mixed in. Greenwich Avenue offers the same shops as any major city, has major restaurateurs, but also has all local purveyors and cute shops,” said Jessica Chestler in the list. Chestler is a licensed real estate broker with Douglas Elliman and part of The Chestler Jacobs Team.
“You have a one-hour train to the city and first-class public schools and amazing private schools as well, not to mention you save on income taxes with easy access to New York,” Chestler added, noting real estate sales in Greenwich are “few and far between.”
Citing Zillow, Chestler said the average Greenwich home value is over $2 million.
Greenwich has routinely been ranked on “safest” and “wealthiest” towns lists over the years, and the latest accolade is another feather in the town’s cap.
“In survey after survey, rating after rating, we see Greenwich constantly being rated at or near the top of all the categories that you want to be highly rated in for the past six years. The latest ranking, this time from Travel + Leisure, confirms what a lot of us have been feeling and believing, and that is that our town continues to be a destination,” First Selectman Fred Camillo told Patch.
“Location, natural assets, and proximity to NYC aside, I believe our greatest strength is our people. The residents here roll up their sleeves and volunteer like in no other venue, and that is something that sets us apart from every other municipality.”
