Greensboro NC's Prevention Strategies, Sediment earn grants

Six small businesses in the Triad, including three from Greensboro, have received grant funding from the N.C. Board of Science, Technology & Innovation.
The One N.C. Small Business Program awards incentive and matching grants of up to a maximum $75,000.
The grants were provided to early stage technology companies to assist in developing and commercializing groundbreaking new technologies with the potential for commercialization.
The incentive program reimburses small businesses in North Carolina for the costs they incur in preparing applications to the federal government.
If a company is successful in winning a Phase 1 award, the matching program supplements those federal funds to further help companies navigate the time between the launch of a business idea and when that idea generates sustainable revenue.
Prevention Strategies LLC, based in Greensboro, received $75,000 toward developing and testing an online alcohol prevention game for 13–to 15-year-olds. The game will simulate the process of finding new friends and engaging in activities that support or detract from one’s life goal to help teens understand how alcohol use may hamper them from reaching their goals.
Sediment, based in Greensboro, received $75,000 to develop a handheld camera-based system equipped with machine learning to enable more time-efficient and cost-effective measurements of coastal sediment size. The technology would allow better monitoring of coastal erosion and predicting storm impacts.
AxNano LLC, based in Greensboro, received $50,000 to develop and test a method to remove harmful Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) from wastewater sludge, also known as biosolids. The system aims to decrease the amount of PFAS in biosolids applied to fields or disposed of in landfills, thereby limiting the amount of toxic PFAS seeping into soil and groundwater.
C3I Tech LLC, based in High Point, received $75,000 to develop a secure login system for military applications that uses a combination of fingerprint scans, special tap patterns and generative artificial intelligence. This will create a more secure sign-in option for devices when conditions do not allow for Face ID or Touch ID.
Vigilant Cyber Systems Inc., based in Mount Airy, received $69,998 to design and develop an automated tactical effectiveness service. This will allow military teams to quickly understand how well their electromagnetic equipment (i.e., jammers, sensors) works on missions.
OsRostrum Inc., based in Graham, received $62,500 to develop an automated phenotyping platform to measure livestock traits and inform breeding and management decisions. This platform will encompass a low-cost imaging system to capture various structural characteristics. This will provide insights into cattle health to prevent large cattle losses from disease.
There were also 11 Triad companies to receive an incentive program award worth up to $12,000.
Those companies are: Brilliant Aerospace, Greensboro, $12,000; Vigilant Cyber Security, Mount Airy, $12,000; Aris Inc., Greensboro, $11,550; Soelect Inc., Greensboro, $10,428; AxNano, Greensboro, $9,374; Osrostrum Inc., Graham, $7,395; Algaen Corp., Winston-Salem, $6,692; Elemance, Winston-Salem, $3,845; Setter Research, Greensboro, $2,742; BioFluids Medicals LLC, Winston-Salem, $2,642; Deep Creek Pharma LLC, Yadkinville, $1,876.
