This winners of The National Curry Awards (NCA) have been announced, celebrating the UK's curry house heroes. The sixth annual awards took place on Monday (October 20) at the House of Lords, and a number of North West restaurants and takeaways picked up awards. Picking up some of the most prestigious awards of the night were two Greater Manchester restaurants, with both sharing their pride at being recognised on social media following the glittering ceremony in London. Created in 2019, the National Curry Awards was created in order to promote businesses within the Asian catering industry and to recognise their talented and hard-working staff. Event director, Abdul Ahad Chowdhury, said: “This is the sixth National Curry awards and all have been hosted here [The House of Lords]. It's a prestigious event and every restaurant deserves to be recognised properly. "I believe the restaurant sector has a good future, as it allows people to be their own boss, and holding the awards here will help to inspire younger generations.” Picking up for Greater Manchester were two restaurants. Vevas Indian Restaurant in Stalybridge won the 'Restaurant of the Year’, North West Award 2025 - making it the second year in a row that the team were given the title. Vevas is owned and run by Iqbal Alam, who established the business around eight years ago having worked in family restaurants from the age of 17. The restaurant is located inside one of Greater Manchester's oldest cotton mills that was first built in 1805. Writing about their win on Facebook, the team wrote: "We've only gone and done it again! "Two years in a row - National Curry Awards 2025: Best Restaurant in the North West. "We are truly proud and honoured to share this award with all of you. Our hard work, dedication and passion have been recognised once again - and its all thanks to our amazing team and loyal customers. "This award belongs to all of us. Thank you for your continued support." Joining them on the winners table was Lees Spice Lounge in Oldham , which took home 'Curryhouse of the Year' for the North West. Sharing the news on Facebook, the restaurant, which is located on High Street, wrote: " We WON – Best Curry Award 2025! "We’re incredibly proud to share that LEES SPICE LOUNGE has been awarded the Best Curry at this year. "This is more than just a trophy – it’s a celebration of every spice stirred, every dish served, and every smile shared at our tables. "From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU to our amazing team and to all our wonderful customers who support us every single day. This win belongs to all of you. "Come taste the award-winning curry for yourself – it's hot, it's fresh, and it's waiting for you!" Commenting on the awards, The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg added: "I want to congratulate everyone, all of today’s winners. "The hospitality you provide in every city, every town and every village is superb… Curry gives so much enjoyment to so many people all over the country. "Well done to everybody for carrying on wonderful traditions and provisioning us with so much enjoyment every week of the year.”
