Dear Editor, Guyana has a way of bringing the wrong attention to herself. If this is not dangerous then my conclusion would be it is more political and we all know what they say when it comes to politics. Like many Guyanese I keep rigid whenever it comes to current affairs especially the daily happenings in my beloved country. Something has struck me and I must have my take. Although I believe it is appalling I would like to have my say. Now today (Monday) I read in the Stabroek News that the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has issues with eleven counts of unpaid taxes against the Mohameds which brings it to a total of 34 billion Guyana dollars from 2019 to 2023. Why did it take so long for GRA to signal this revelation publicly to the Mohameds and more so to the public? Is the Guyana Revenue Authority aware that those offenses are criminal offenses which could also hold that entity culpable? Editor, prior to those allegations being leveled against the Mohameds was or were there any allegation/allegations leveled against this family and if the answer is yes my question remains why is only now the GRA taking this stance? GRA needs to answer those questions because if they don’t have answers then they are complicit and they too should be investigated. Editor, this speaks volumes and if the GRA and the government by extension haven’t realized how they have now exposed themselves, this should be the opportune moment for the newly elected opposition body to call for an international investigation. Editor, the government has thrown itself under the bus if they haven’t realize it as yet. Yannason Duncan
