Goxi Microinsurance to Host Third Annual Conference on Inclusive Insurance for Low-Income Nigerians

Goxi Microinsurance Limited has announced that it will hold its third annual conference to promote inclusive insurance for low-income households and small businesses in Nigeria. The event, which focuses on improving access to affordable insurance, is scheduled to take place on November 12, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos. In a statement released on Monday, Goxi Microinsurance said the 2025 edition will be organised in partnership with the Microinsurance Network, a global organisation that promotes financial protection for underserved communities around the world. The conference is expected to bring together key players in Nigeria’s insurance sector, including regulators, development partners, and industry leaders, to discuss practical ways to strengthen microinsurance in the country. This year’s theme, “Reflection on Microinsurance in Nigeria for Inclusive Growth,” aims to highlight new strategies and innovations that can help protect vulnerable households, traders, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from financial shocks such as fire outbreaks, accidents, and other emergencies that often push families into poverty. The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Goxi Microinsurance Limited, Mr. Shina Gbadegesin, said the upcoming event will deepen conversations about how affordable insurance can serve as a financial safety net for Nigeria’s most vulnerable citizens. “Microinsurance in Nigeria has come a long way, but we must do more to ensure that low-income earners and small business owners are adequately protected. When a market fire or accident happens, insurance should not be a luxury; it should be a lifeline,” Gbadegesin stated. He explained that Goxi Microinsurance remains committed to promoting financial inclusion by providing simple and accessible insurance solutions that meet the needs of low-income Nigerians. Over the past five years, the company has paid out more than N636 million in claims to traders and low-income families affected by various disasters, including market fires, accidents, and natural hazards across the country. Gbadegesin said the goal of the annual conference is not just to raise awareness about microinsurance but also to create a strong network among industry players that can design better and more sustainable products for ordinary Nigerians. He added that the company’s focus has always been on building trust, simplifying the insurance process, and ensuring prompt claim payments. Industry experts believe the 2025 edition of the conference will be one of the most impactful gatherings in Nigeria’s insurance calendar. According to them, the discussions are expected to explore several areas, including the role of digital innovations in improving access to microinsurance, gender-sensitive products that address the needs of women traders and entrepreneurs, and community-based partnerships that can help extend insurance coverage to rural and informal sectors. Experts also noted that as more Nigerians embrace digital financial services, technology could play a major role in transforming the country’s microinsurance market by reducing costs and making claims processing faster and more transparent. Goxi Microinsurance has in recent years received multiple awards for its contribution to expanding financial inclusion and empowering low-income households. The company is recognised as one of Nigeria’s leading microinsurance providers and has built strong partnerships with cooperatives, trade associations, and digital platforms to reach millions of Nigerians who are not covered by traditional insurance companies. Organisers of the upcoming conference said they expect representatives from the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), and other financial sector regulators to attend the event. International development agencies and non-governmental organisations working in financial inclusion and social protection are also expected to participate. The 2025 conference will provide a platform for open discussions, experience sharing, and the development of actionable recommendations that can support Nigeria’s financial inclusion goals. Stakeholders are expected to address challenges such as low insurance penetration, poor awareness, and affordability barriers that prevent many Nigerians from accessing insurance products. Gbadegesin expressed optimism that the recommendations from the conference will contribute to national efforts to strengthen the microinsurance sector and support Nigeria’s broader economic development agenda. He emphasised that by protecting the poor and small businesses from unexpected financial losses, microinsurance can play a key role in reducing poverty and building a more resilient economy. According to him, “Every time a trader or small business recovers from a loss because of insurance, that is progress for the Nigerian economy. That is the impact we want to multiply through initiatives like this conference.” The Goxi Microinsurance annual conference continues to serve as a platform for collaboration among industry stakeholders who are committed to building a more inclusive financial system in Nigeria.
