Govts. have to be adequately prepared to tackle cyberattacks, says Kerala CM

Elected governments have to be adequately prepared to tackle cyberattacks and cybercrimes at a time when governance is becoming more and more digitalised, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Saturday.

The Chief Minister noted that cybersecurity was becoming a matter of great concern not just to the public or the industry, but also to law enforcement agencies and governments.

He was inaugurating the concluding session of ‘c0c0n 2025’, the annual cybersecurity and hacking conference organised by the Kerala Police in association with the Information Security Research Association (ISRA).

Hailing the Kerala Police for constantly working to improve cybersecurity using the best practices, Mr. Vijayan said that the State’s goal is to conceive new and innovative counter measures against cybersecurity threats and crimes.

The cybercrime figures released by Interpol and the National Crime Records Bureau, clearly point out that our children and youth are under constant threat in the cyberworld and if digital devices and services are not used with caution, they may become victims to cybercrimes. Both children and parents need to be educated on the safety measures to be taken before using social networking sites,” he said.

The Chief Minister said over the years, the c0c0n meet has positioned Kerala as the national hub for cybersecurity governance and a key contributor to India’s digital security architecture.

“c0c0n 2025 emphasised that cybersecurity underpins national security, economic stability, and citizen welfare. For Kerala, hosting this global event reinforces its position as India’s most forward-looking digital State. The event’s strong emphasis on AI, law enforcement capacity building, and child protection technology will offer avenues for Kerala to influence national policy directions and contribute to India’s emerging cyber-safety frameworks,” he added.

Minister for Industries P. Rajeeve chaired the meet. Kochi Mayor M. Anilkumar; Ravada Azad Chandrasekhar, State Police Chief and Director General of Police; Manoj Abraham, Director General of Police and Director of Vigilance; S. Sreejith, Additional Director General of Police; P. Prakash, Inspector General of Police; Ankit Asokan, Superintendent of Police, Cyber Operations; and representatives of Childlight, a global child safety institute, attended the valedictory session.
